[Who are the Fiery Furnaces?]
The Fiery Furnaces are a brother and sister duo from
New York. They play beautiful music that could be best
described as a mixture of rock and blues. Their blend of synthesizer, piano, wah-wah
guitar onto mock folk, psychedelic blues
and bubblegum pop is as unique as it is eccentric.
[Wait. Brother and sister for real?]
Yes, this time. Matt and Eleanor are siblings and the
intense, sometimes difficual dynamic between them is
part of what makes the Fiery Furnaces' sound so complex,
unusual and, at times, eccentric.
[So how long have they been around for?]
The Fiery Furnaces have been touring as
a band since 2001. They signed up with UK-based indie label Rough
Trade in early 2003, and their debut album "Gallowsbird's Bark"
followed later that year.
[What have they released so far?]
Their debut album "Gallowsbird's Bark" came
out in late 2003 (UK and US), preceeded by the single
"Crystal Clear" (UK only). The second single followed in
February 2004, "Tropical Ice-Land" (UK only). The second
album, "Blueberry Boat" came out in 2004, and a
singles/rarities compilation "EP" followed in January
2005.
