THE NEW DOUBLE ALBUM
Plenty of news on the upcoming Fiery Furnaces
albums has emerged. Pitchfork
Media has revealed that The Fiery
Furnaces next relase will be a double album,
set for mid-July. The double release will include
the albums "Garfield El" and "Speaking
Chinese". Matt provided Pitchfork with
a provisional tracklisting for "Garfield
El", which includes the following songs:
$5,000 a Day
Guns Under the Counter
Dr. Peter Pane and His Doughnut Factory
Seven Silver Curses
Funeral at My Wedding, Wedding at His Funeral
Slaving Away
Bishop Nickoliky
Shady Grave
According to Pitchfork, Garfield El is named after the Green Line stop near which Matt and Eleanor's grandmother Olga Sarantos presumably resides. Also, Rough Trade is aiming for a May release, in contrast with the mid-July date suggested by the band. When asked about "Garfield El", Matt said: "I don't know what to say about it. There's a lot of talking. It's sorta middle-eastern-like. I shouldn't try and give a description. There's a lot of narration on it." The backing tracks are completed, and are laying down the vocals at Chicago's Soma Studios with grandmother Olga Sarantos. Apparently, Sarantos will be singing in dialogue with Eleanor repeatedly throughout the 60-minute record.
CONCERT-ONLY VINYLS
Speaking to Pitchfork, Matt announced the band were planning to record a series of new records which would be sold as vinyls at the band's shows. Matt told Pitchfork, "It would be 30-minute or 15-minute songs about Tom DeLay and his son, and 15-minute songs about the Senate Majority Leader [Bill Frist]. They would be very factual and realistic. They're such different characters, those two. The fancy surgeon and the exterminator, DeLay. His son is a big developer north of Dallas."
