Eleanor on Spin's Cool List
The October 2004 issue of Spin
features 'The Cool List' - a list of rock's Top 40
trendsetters according to the magazine. Eleanor is in at
number 39. Here is what Spin says:
39 ELEANOR FRIEDBERGER
"She's been linked romantically to Alex from Franz,
and her Fiery Furnaces are opening for Wilco. Not bad
for the wildest brother-stster dup since the Whi...er,
never mind."
Well done Eleanor. Spin is
out now.

Double album in Spring (?)
According to Matt, the Fiery Furnaces are due to
return to the studio in January to start recording the
follow-up to 'Blueberry Boat'. Or the follow-ups. In
an interview to Columbus Alive, Matt announced two new
records for Spring 2005, and said:
"We start recording again in January. Hopefully
we’ll get both records done and they’ll be released as
a double record in the spring. The “grandmother”
record will be very downcast [...] And the other is
outlandish, a sort of
open-the-windows-of-your-car-in-the-summer record, to
counterbalance the unhappiness of the other record."
Lots to look forward to, then. Read the article,
Setting Sail,
here.
Furthermore, according to the article published in the
Independent / Belfast Telegraph on September 17, 2004,
(see news below) the double album should be
followed by another, "...an album of more
seven-minute story-ballad songs".

'Blueberry Boat' released in the
UK
Two months after the US release (July 13), British
fans are finally able to get their hands on the Fiery
Furnaces second album, 'Blueberry Boat'.
'Bluebery Boat' is out on Monday, September 6th
through Rough Trade Records. To read the press
release,
Unlike the predecessor, 'Blueberry Boat' is not
preceeded by a single. But judging by the positive
reception of their Summer single, 'Single Again',
chart success is a real possibility.
